Tak właśnie powstała pierwsza generacja Kii Sorento. Auto miało niezwykle prostą stylizację, nie do końca dopracowaną kabinę pasażerską oraz silnik diesla pod maską. Historia tej jednostki jest o tyle ciekawa, że była ona właściwie dedykowana Sorento. A skąd się wzięła? Jej geneza jest owiana wielką tajemnicą. Koreańczycy nigdy oficjalnie nie wypowiedzieli się na temat prac konstrukcyjnych czy projektantów. A to stworzyło pole do popisu dla spekulacji. Diesel CRDi Kia - tajemniczy silnik z nowoczesną technologią Są tacy, którzy twierdzą że całkiem nowoczesny silnik diesla jest autorską pracą koreańskich inżynierów. Inni z kolei są zdania, że stanowi rozwinięcie motoru zbudowanego przez VM Motori. W stosunku do wersji TD otrzymał jednak kilka modyfikacji, a w tym jedną głowicę dla wszystkich cylindrów oraz wtrysk typu common rail. Precyzyjna technologia dostarczająca olej napędowy do komory spalania nie jest jedynym zaawansowanym rozwiązaniem zastosowanym w koreańskim dieslu. Silnik CRDi korzysta również z koła dwumasowego oraz turbosprężarki ze zmienną geometrią łopatek (wprowadzonej w wersji po liftingu z roku 2006). Na szczęście diesel nie był wyposażany w filtr cząstek stałych, a rozrząd jest realizowany za pomocą łańcucha. W pierwszej fazie produkcji - tj. między rokiem 2003 a 2006 - jednostka rozwijała 140 koni mechanicznych. Moment obrotowy miał wartość 320 Nm. Choć parametry wydają się być więcej niż przyzwoite, musiały poradzić sobie z ważącym dwie tony Sorento. A to sprawiało, że Kia z całą pewnością nie byłą demonem prędkości. Przyspieszenie do pierwszej setki przy zastosowaniu skrzyni manualnej zajmowało niespełna 15 sekund. Mało zadowalające okazywało się też zapotrzebowanie na paliwo - w mieście SUV spalał grubo ponad 10 litrów oleju napędowego. Pod koniec roku 2005 motor CRDi przeszedł modernizację. Turbosprężarka ze zmienną geometrią łopatek, przeprojektowany zawór EGR oraz inny rozrusznik podbiły jego moc do 170 koni mechanicznych, a moment obrotowy do 392 Nm. Osiągi koreańskiego diesla poprawiły się. Teraz auto przyspieszało do pierwszej setki w około 12 sekund, było zdecydowanie bardziej elastyczne i miało dużo mniejszą turbodziurę. W zasadniczy sposób nie zmieniło się jedynie zapotrzebowanie na paliwo. SUV nadal spalał w mieście około 11 litrów oleju napędowego. Diesel CRDi Kia - główny problem dotyczy wtryskiwaczy Turbodziura i raczej anemiczny sposób rozwijania mocy nie są jedynymi problemami Kii Sorento. diesel CRDi nie jest też szczególnie trwały. Podstawowym problemem są nieszczelności występujące w układzie wtryskowym. Uszkodzone wtryskiwacze zaczynają przepuszczać olej napędowy i dostarczają go w zbyt dużej ilości do komory spalania. W ten sposób w kabinie można poczuć charakterystyczny zapach paliwa. Dodatkowo z czasem kierowca zauważy efekt rosnącego poziomu oleju w silniku. Rozrzedzanie smarowidła paliwem jest szczególnie groźne. Prowadzi do uszkodzenia elementów bloku - a w tym wytarcia wałków rozrządu - oraz w skrajnym przypadku rozbiegania. Diesel CRDi nie jest często spotykany. To na szczęście nie ma wpływu na ceny naprawy układu wtryskowego. W sytuacji, w której kierowca zdecyduje się na regenerację lejących wtryskiwaczy, za naprawę każdego z mechanizmów będzie musiał zapłacić 300 - 500 złotych. Kwota wydaje się rozsądna, szczególnie że fabrycznie nowy wtrysk kosztuje przeszło 1000 złotych. Na wyższe koszty kierowca powinien przygotować się w sytuacji, w której problemy dotkną pompy wysokiego ciśnienia. Nowy element zostanie wyceniony przez sklep motoryzacyjny na 2400 złotych. Regeneracja starej pompy powinna kosztować mniej więcej połowę tej kwoty. Właściciele Kii Sorento pierwszej generacji z początku produkcji bardzo często skarżyli się na to, że auto gasło bez przyczyny. Najczęściej zdarzało się to podczas ruszania spod świateł lub - co dużo gorsze! - szybkiej jazdy na autostradzie. Choć usterka brzmi niezwykle poważnie, winny jej wystąpienia jest błąd koreańskich księgowych. Dali zgodę na zastosowanie metalu zbyt niskiej jakości do wykonania zbiornika paliwa. Ten z czasem koroduje, a zanieczyszczenia zapychają filtr paliwa. Kia organizowała akcję naprawczą związaną z wadliwie wykonanym bakiem. Niestety ta nie została nigdy wdrożona na rynku polskim. A to oznacza, że wolne od skazy są albo auta zmodyfikowane przez właścicieli, albo pochodzące z europejskiego importu. Diesel CRDi Kia - uszkodzone turbo? Pamiętaj o intercoolerze! Popularną usterką w Kii Sorento CRDi jest też uszkodzenie turbosprężarki. Objawy wystąpienia uszkodzenia są typowe - podczas przyspieszania pojawia się świst, z rury wydechowej wydobywa się czarny dym, a autu wyraźnie brakuje mocy. Naprawa doładowania jest dużo prostsza w modelach sprzed liftingu. Turbosprężarka nie posiada bowiem zmiennej geometrii łopatek. Regeneracja turbosprężarki w Kii Sorento kosztuje od 1100 do 1500 złotych. Podczas wykonywania naprawy koniecznie należy pamiętać o czyszczeniu intercoolera. Bez wykonania tej procedury nie będzie mowy o prawidłowej pracy układu doładowania. W silniku CRDi zdarzają się wycieki oleju z silnika i skrzyni biegów oraz przedmuchy w układzie smarowania. Powietrze trafiające do wnętrza motoru za sprawą kanałów krążenia oleju wcale nie musi zwiastować poważnego uszkodzenia. W większości przypadków jest bowiem powodowane przez odmę. Znanym problemem w koreańskim motorze są również uszkodzenia sterownika czy wałków rozrządu w modelach z początku produkcji. Diesel CRDi Kia - podsumowanie Koreańczycy na początku nowego millenium nie słynęli z technologicznego kunsztu. I zasada ta świetnie sprawdza się zarówno w przypadku samego Sorento I, jak i diesla CRDi. Jednak choć auto znalazło rzeszę swoich fanów, motor wysokoprężny nawet na forach zapaleńców Kii budzi pewne wątpliwości. A wszystko za sprawą wysokiego wskaźnika awaryjności. 4-cylindrowa jednostka nie spełniła pokładanych w niej nadziei, przez co dzisiaj trafiła na listę silników, przed wyborem których warto dwa razy się zastanowić. I messed up when we ordered it because at the moment we have a Seat Altea XL 138bhp with only a maximum towing weight of 1400kg(Manufact Rec) and therefore near 97%.... So, after appologising to my wife for my big mistake we are now looking at a new Kia Sorento CRDI XE... the XE is quite a bit less cost than the XS/XT/Titan... However, there a number of less features on the XE... could someone please give me some advice on whether the XE will do the job or that we should consider the XS which I know was voted towcar 2008????? any advice would be very welcomed... This basically means that the car drives in rear wheel drive most of the time, but when slippage of the front wheels is detected it seamlessly engages 4wd. If combined with the 5 speed auto box the driver input is minimal. With ATD/T you select fixed 4wd low ratio with a dash mounted switch. I think I know where you are coming from as he did say in the dealership that most of the time I would put in 2wd mode(plus more economical), but can select the 4wd hi and lo options by switching too manually... I did consider the XS and XT models but as I said in my posting I made a mistake with my exising SEAT and so the next level up from the XE, ie. the XS was about another 3k. So, given a few less luxeries and having to change from 2wd to 4wd lo/hi, I have just purchased a 2009 Lunar 534 mad load 1350kg I am asuming that I have still made an OK choice with the Kia XE.. Also on the caravan I have opted for the factory fitted ATC feature, will this also help the overall safety of the Van?... This is incorrect and you should compare with the kerb weight. I have had a quick look at Seat's web site, and this gives kerb weights for the 2009 XL Stylance as 1469 and 1504 Kg for the manual and DSG versions respectively. These values give 92% and 90% towing ratios rather than the 97% you quoted. Manufacturer's kerb weights are notoriously inaccurate, and the actual figures are likely to be better than this (but you would need to check on a weighbridge.) I am sure many on here tow with higher ratios than you would have, based on the above figures. Power wise I would not expect you to have any problems. I am not saying the Sorento may not do the job better, but your wallet would probably appreciate it if you at least gave the Seat a try (especially in these 'credit crunch' times.) Thanks Steven, you have made agood choice, the Kia XE is a fine car and will tow your van without any trouble whatsoever. Even pitching up onwet CLs my XS with TOD rarely cuts into 4wd. What i tend to do to prevent churning the grass is to engage 4wd low and she just crawls the van into place without any grass damage. I also note that you are new to towing, and these two facts together are of some concern. Most novice towers will start with a much lower towing ratio, and as they build their experience, they may feel able to handle higher ratio's, But ratios alone do not determine if an outfit is good or bad. Many other factors come into play, and it is a broad range of characteristics that affect the tow-a-bility of an outfit. The maximum permitted towed mass is set out by the vehicle manufacturer. This must not be exceeded along with the Gross Train Weight and axle loadings. Generally it is better to keep the overall weight of a trailer as low as possible. Some suggest only 85% though this has no legal bearing and is a guideline only. The way the load is stored in the caravan will affect its towing. It is good practice to keep heavy items low down, and as near to the axle as possible. The detailed disposition of the loaded items must be adjusted to create enough nose load to keep the outfit stable, but must not exceed the either the limit of the caravan hitch or the tow bar assembly on the car. Don't forget that the trailers nose load is supported by the car, so this forms part of the cars paylaod. Don't over-load the car. Good vehicle maintenance and tyre checks are also important. One of the biggest contributing factors in instability is excessive speed. This is down to the driver, who must also read the road conditions ahead, and avoid sudden braking and changes of direction.
